Advanced Diagnostic Analysis: at Health Renewal we have incorporated specialized tests based on the most advanced global developments, now available in South Africa. By analyzing saliva, urine and stool samples these tests can assist in the diagnosis of specific health related problems, and therefor assist in the management of health concerns through early identification, supplementation and the correct lifestyle choices. Your Health Renewal Doctor will advise on the required tests after a thorough consultation and Medical History examination.

- 2What tests are available through Stool samples?
- 3Sensitivity to food reaction: Process of Elimination.
- 4What tests are available through Urine samples?
A 0.5 – 1 ml Saliva sample is provided by the patient, which is then tested for various hormone levels whilst in an unbound carrier protein state. (This testing method is much more sensitive and provides clinically relevant information, rather than traditional methods of testing via a serum base.)
1.1 Cortisol: is an important steroid hormone, which is produced by the adrenal glands and is essential for life. Cortisol maintains glucose production from protein, facilitates fat metabolism, supports vascular responsiveness and modulates central nervous function.
1.2 DHEA: Dehydroepiandrosterone belongs to the androgen group and is a precursor to hormone formation; it is almost exclusively produced in the Adrenal cortex. DHEA is converted into androgens & estrogens and then released into circulation.
1.3 Progesterone: P4 plays a vital role in the human life-cycle. It is responsible for the cyclical changes that occur in the endometrium that allows for the implantation of a fertilized egg; the maintenance of the uterus during pregnancy and prepares the breasts for lactation.
1.4 Oestradiol: E2 is secreted by the female ovaries or made in adipose (fat) tissue. This hormone contributes to endometrial & breast tissue growth, and is responsible for secondary sex characteristics. Furthermore when in sufficient levels it improves memory, relieves menopausal symptoms and protects against heart disease.
1.5 Testosterone: The principle sex hormone found in men, which as men age and hormones levels drop can lead to loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, loss of muscle mass, nervousness, depression, impaired memory, fatigue, insomnia, hot flushes and sweating.
1.6 SlgA: this is found in saliva, gastric fluids, plasma and the mucous membranes of the body. It has the vital function of being the main defense mechanism of the mucosal surface against invasion by pathogens. A healthy level of slgA is vital for gut health and subsequent overall health.
Testing of a stool sample is done to distinguish IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Measuring the level of faecal calprotectin is the most sensitive way to distinguish between IBD and IBS, by identifying the degree of neutrophil migration into the gastrointestinal mucosa.
2.1 M2 Pyruvate Kinase:
M2-PK test is a very sensitive screening test to pick up potential colorectal cancer, before confirmation by a colonoscopy. By examining the patient’s stool sample, signs of malignant colorectal cancer can be identified, which can be the difference of treating cancer or becoming part of the statistics of 11% of cancer patients dying from this type of cancer. Early detection is vital for adequate treatment.
2.2 Pancreatic Elastase-1
This stool sample test assesses the Exocrine Pancreatic Function. The pancreas is responsible to produce a broad range of enzymes that is critical for normal digestive functions, and absorption of food – and thus giving the body the nutrient absorption it needs to function properly. If the exocrine tissue is damaged it results in malabsorption leading to a condition called Pancreatic Exocrine Insufficiency (PEI).
Some symptoms of PEI are chronic diarrhoea and weight loss, also chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer and cystic fibrosis are important but uncommon causes of exocrine insufficiency.
2.3 Intestinal Dysbiosis:
Within the gastrointestinal tract there are over 400 species of microbes, which are essential for the normal development of gastrointestinal tract and immune system. When the delicate microflora in the gut and colon is disturbed it results in Intestinal Dysbiosis which can trigger, aggravate and cause chronic persistence of various disorders and medical diseases.
Some symptoms include: flatulence, nausea, abdominal distension, gastrointestinal cramps and reflux, non-specific arthralgia and rapid changes in weight. This condition can lead to much more severe problems such as Autism, ADHD, Acute Pancreatitis, IBS, IBD, food allergy and Food intolerance.
2.4 Helicobacter Pylori Stool Antigen Test
Helicobacter Pulori is a predominant causative agent of gastric and duodenal ulcers. Through testing a random stool sample early identification of this agent in the gastrointestinal tract can assist in ulcers identification and putting lifestyle changes in place to prevent the condition deteriorating.
Food Intolerance IgG
It is very common for individuals to have reactions to specific food antigens. Food intolerance is an abnormal reaction to certain foods which can manifest itself in various ways, resulting in symptoms throughout numerous parts of the body i.e.: the gut, the joints, and/or head. By removing problem foods from the diet, it will rapidly improve the patient’s condition.
By analyzing a concentrated urine sample a general excess of kryptopyrrole levels can be identified. If this is the case the excess presence of kryptopyrrole can be used as a diagnostic tool for disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADHA, Autism, Alcoholism and Multiple Sclerosis.
Kryptopyrrole is a by-product during the production of haemoglobin, but then binds to nutrients such as zinc and vitamin B6, and is excreted in the urine. If this happens too fast, it can lead to nutrient deficiency resulting in potential behavioural imbalances, learning disabilities, and difficulties in the management of physical and emotional stress. If not treated in time, this can lead to more serious disorders (as listed above).

Dr Burt has managed to make me feel like a new person. After careful examination of my general well being and numerous blood tests - Dr Burt has sorted out my hormones in such a gentle way that the experience was a pleasure. So much so my friends have asked for his number - hopefully their experience will be as positive as mine was. Thank you Dr Burt & Skin Renewal.
